Pay it Forward
Try to take that attitude toward life that you’re going to pay forward. So seldom can we pay back because those who helped most–your parents and other people–will be gone, but you’ll find that you do want to pay. Emerson had something to say about that: “You can pay back only seldom.” But he said, “You can always pay forward, and you must pay line for line, deed for deed, and cent for cent.” He said, “Beware of too much good accumulating in your palm or it will fast corrupt.” That was Emerson’s attitude, and no one put it better than he did.
- Woody Hayes’ Commencement Speech 1986

We are lucky to have a lot of great staff, students and parents here at Bradley High School. With that in mind, we would like to recognizing these positive contributions, acts of kindness, or just going above and beyond through the “Jaguars Pay Forward” program.
If you see a student, staff member or parent exemplifying these qualities please send an email to kim_stamolis@hboe.org or rae_cunningham@hboe.org, the Renaissance advisors . We hope we can continue to create this type of culture within our school.
Students can submit nominations via email or by stopping in the main office to fill out a form. We will recognize all nominees on our website weekly. Parents are welcome to nominate someone as well!
Each nominee will receive a certificate and Jaguars Pay Forward wristband. From all the nominations we will pick the top two and they will receive our special Jaguar Pay Forward Award.
We hope this will promote a Pay Forward attitude within our school walls and within our community.
Thank you for your support!
Pay it Forward Nominees & Winners:
Congratulations to the April Jaguars Pay Forward winners:
Diana Meleshchuk –
“Diana works with one of our students from the work-study program 1st period every morning. She always comes in with a “good morning” and smile on her face. Getting prepared for the job is no easy task, there are several steps involved and Diana always does this with a smile! She deserves a big pat on the back for all her hard work!”
“Diana is a STAR tutor and volunteers every morning to help a special needs student do a very tedious job….shredding paper!! She brings the shedder into Mrs. Boyd’s room, sets up the chairs and sits there and helps the student the entire period!!”
Dalton Warner – Dalton was very helpful in working with a special needs student who was upset and needed help getting back to class. Dalton was patient, friendly and comforting in this situation!”
Andrew Daroczy- “Andrew has been giving up his study hall time to model for the 5th period Drawing 3 class. The current unit is figure drawing. It helps to have an outside student model so that it doesn’t take away from drawing/teaching time in class.”
Feaira Crews-Stewart – “ Feaira found a check for $20 and turned it in to the main office.”
Sarah Morrison (12) – “Sarah was cutting it close to being late to school one morning when she passed another student, Marquez Frierson, walking to school (he had missed his bus and was walking from Bayside) on Roberts Road. Sarah turned around and picked Marquez up. Both ended up being a few minutes late to school, but both made it safely.”
Thomas Jones (9) –“ I observed Thomas standing in the rain one morning as I came in through the back doors holding the door open for Mrs. Lambert and a special needs student, Jessica, who uses a walker. Mrs. Lambert was helping Jessica off the bus, but had forgotten her pass-card to re-enter the building.”
Max Cooper – “In Financial Independence we often use my laptop cart. At the end of class I always find Max Cooper arranging the laptops and fixing any that were not put away correctly. When he leaves they are always perfectly aligned with all the computers plugged in and cords put away. I really appreciate his help without ever being asked.”
Joe Sundberg-“ Joe found $10 in the hallway upstairs and turned it in to the main office. He is a very honest young man!”
Bradley Lunch Ladies – “These ladies are awesome! Not only do they prepare great food, they are fun and treat the students and staff like family!”
I would like to nominate Mr. Sayre for a Pay It Forward. “Mr. Sayre goes above and beyond to inspire his students to be the best we can be. He showed me that you can’t achieve your goals without working hard. On Mr. Sayre’s board there is an article about one of the best male basketball players in the state. Above the article one number is written, “60,000″. This man became the best he could be by taking 60,000 shots a day and every day Mr. Sayre reminds us of that. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t practice that much and I wouldn’t be going to the world tournament. Now I try three times harder in everything I do. Thank you for pushing me Mr. Sayre, it changed my life.” -Shelby Haworth
Congratulations to March’s Pay it Forward Winners:
Gina Pullin – “I would like to nominate Gina Pullin. I am not fortunate enough to work with Gina on a day-to-day basis, but her impact on the students is clear to see, even from a distance. Seeing her efforts makes me strive to be an even better teacher. On more than a few occasions, I’ve left at the end of the school day and then needed to return to the building to pick something up. I’ve seen Gina working one-on-one with students… even into the early evening. She makes her students and their success the #1 priority, even when it keeps her at school long after the last bell. In addition, she negotiates her time to help with students’ academics while advising an award-winning dance team and organizing a school-wide talent show. As an adviser who plans events at school, I know that both of these things can be overwhelming on their own. It takes a truly talented and dedicated teacher to do it all and do it so well.” – Staff Member
Michael Wilcox - “Michael noticed that I need helped carrying a ladder. He offered to carry it back to the custodian for me. That was a HUGE help!!” – Mrs. McNamee
Chad Cook, Kimmy VanFossen, Allison Koon, Caitlin Jenkins, Jenna Sargent, Olivia Johnston – These students helped clean up the commons on the day of our lunch fire alarm. They assisted in cleaning tables, picking up underneath tables and did this without being asked. They simply saw we needed a hand and willing pitched in to help!
Congratulations to February’s Pay it Forward Winners:
STUDENTS
Anita Harvard – overheard in class encouraging and offering help to a classmate. When the classmate said that she wasn’t going to do the assignment, Anita said, “Yes, you are. You can do this. You have worked too hard on this already. I am not going to let you quit. I will come over to your house and help you if you need me to.” – Staff Member
Corrine Frye - found $15 dollars on the floor and turned it into the main office.- Staff member
Marshayla Young – found an MP3 in the hall on the second floor before school and brought it down to turn in to the main office. – Staff Member
Aaron Applegarth- Aaron volunteers during 1st period to assist a student with special needs in her job delivering passes. He is a great, positive role model in many ways! The special needs student has shown huge improvement in her work skills and appropriate work behavior thanks to Aaron’s guidance! Well Done Aaron! – Staff Member
Morgan Tucker – Morgan goes along with special needs students everyday during 1st period, helping the student learn her tasks and stay focused on her job. She is also a wonderful role model and her sincere, patient guidance has helped the special needs student improve in many ways! – Staff Member
STAFF
Ms. Kelli Aquila – Ms. Aquila puts so much into her work and loves what she does. She makes class fun and interesting. She makes me want to stay in that class the whole day! To me, SHE IS THE BEST!! She is kind, understanding, enthusiastic and she always has a positive attitude. She is great to be with each day in class. – Student
Mrs. Evelyn Lambert – Recently, Evelyn has been standing by the south east entrance and will open the door for teachers. My room seems like the farthest room in the school. It’s in the science hallway, and it is wonderful to not have to walk all of the way to the scanner entrance, and all the way back to my room. It is such a nice treat, especially when it is so cold out and my hands are full. It something as small as opening a door, but it literally makes my day when she is there! -Staff Member
Mr. Mike Reiner - I had asked Mike to borrow a ladder. He not only brought the ladder, but proceeded to help me take items off the top shelf of my display case, went and got a dust mops to clean the shelves, and helped me rearrange the heavier glass shelves. He absolutely went above and beyond what he needed to do! – Staff Member
Congratulations to January’s Pay it Forward Winners:
STAFF
Mr. Gary Brown – Custodial Staff
“I just wanted to tell you that you have a hero among your custodial staff. This Thursday (the 20th) I lost my wallet. It had fallen out of my back pocket during my fourth period class. Of course I hadn’t realized it until the end of fifth period, and needless to say I was kind of freaking out. I had recently put all my money (close to $200) into my wallet I went home and was feeling really bad, and then around 5:30 we got a call from the school. It was Mr. Gary Brown, calling to tell us that he had found a wallet with all my information in it. Within 20 minutes we were back up at the school to meet him. We drove around to the back to meet him in the school, but he was already walking outside to greet us before the car had been put into park. After we exchanged words about how much this meant to us, we offered him $20 as a small reward, but he wouldn’t take a cent. He said that he would be denying a blessing from above.
I just wanted to write to you to tell you how much we appreciate Mr. Brown’s high integrity. I just wanted to let you know that you have a very decent and kind hearted person on your custodial staff. “ – Student

Steven Breen (11th)- Steven turned in $65 to the office that he found on the floor. It was successfully returned to a parent who has lost the money.
Mrs. Elizabeth Creek – “Elizabeth is one of the most dedicated teachers I know. She connects with her students on a level that is inspiring to others. They know that she cares about them, through her words and her actions. She works after school and gives up her planning time to help students. She makes sure that all of her students are successful –whatever that looks like. Watching her interact with students makes me want to be an even better teacher.” - Colleague
Congratulations to October’s Jaguars Pay Forward nominees:
Daylan Gibson,11th Grade– “ Daylan works for the cafeteria 6th period. He found money laying on the floor while doing his job. He turned the money in to one of the ladies working in the cafeteria. The money belonged to one of the workers. This was a very honest thing for Daylan to do and we are very proud of him for demonstrating the Pay Forward attitude!”- Teacher
Mr. Russ Edgington – “Russ is a great coach. He genuinely cares about the young men on the Bradley Varsity Golf Team. Compassion and caring for others is a lifelong lesson that Coach Edgington has instilled upon his golf team. Bradley High School is lucky to have Coach Edgington as part of their family”- Parent
Mrs. Sally Ruffing – “Sally always goes the extra mile. She is busy every minute of everyday! She volunteered for her 5th period Department Facilitator time to team teach a portfolio/Draw 3 with me. The only other down time she has is her conference period where she often demonstrates clay techniques for other teachers that have never taught the subject. Sally is truly selfless and is a team player! These are just a few examples of why she deserves this recognition! – Colleague
Mrs. Carla Karn – “Carla goes above and beyond in all she does. She welcomes subs every morning with a smile and finds coverage for classes when no sub is available. She helps all of the classes and club advisors in their fundraisers by helping with handling their deposits, having change available, and often purchasing from students in their fundraisers. Carla makes it convenient for staff to file their sick, personal, and professional leave days by providing the form with name and ID number. No matter what the need, Carla is always willing to help. Carla certainly pays forward in doing what she can for day-to-day operations and special events to run smoothly at Bradley.” – Colleague
Mr. Michael Limbird – “ Coach Limbird has exhibited a dedication and passion to the sport of basketball and the Hilliard area youth by providing future Bradley Jaguar students the opportunity to play basketball at a higher level than what is available in Optimist basketball. I believe Bradley is fortunate to have a Varsity basketball coach with such passion and dedication on its staff. Finding a Varsity coach willing to dedicate his time and efforts to children ages 10-12 is truly what Hilliard Bradley Jaguars Paying Forward awards should be all about. – Parent
These nominees will receive a Jaguars Pay Forward wristband and certificate.
October Jaguars Pay Forward winners are:
Meghan Lawrence, Colleen Ebert, and Cindy Cote – “Like many, if not all, of you the first two years of Bradley High School’s existence have been filled with memories that will last a lifetime. For us, nothing will ever replace the dedication ceremony last August as our favorite, however the events of Homecoming week culminating in the Homecoming parade, game, crowning, and dance are now a close second place. The excitement that was created by these events and evident in the support of our teachers, parents, students, and community is something that is unique to and special about Hilliard Bradley High School. The buzz that spread throughout the community Friday night is still being felt and the congratulatory phone calls and emails from current and future Bradley family members continue to flow in.
None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of a few selfless individuals who simply wanted to create a great experience for our students. If you have an opportunity, please thank Cindy Cote, Meghan Lawrence, and Colleen Ebert for their efforts. They have created a tradition that we sense will last for years to come.
As a school, our primary mission is to teach and we believe we meet that goal every day. There is a place, though, for fun, tradition, and spirit and thanks to you, those too are alive and well at Bradley High School!” –Hilliard Bradley Staff, Students and Community.
These winners will receive a Jaguars Pay Forward wristband, certificate and engraved desk clock.
